Persephone in the Garden

This illustration was created to show a climatic moment in Persephone’s mythos, where she has eaten the 6 pomegranate seeds that now condemn her soul to the underworld for half of the year with her capture and future husband, Hades.

This myth has always been one I have been drawn to, especially the tales that twist the idea that maybe she wasn’t captured yet chose to go and actually fell in love with Hades.

I wanted this illustration to be a moment of tension where her fate still seems uncertain, and the audience is left to guess what is awaiting her.
